So you wanna raise a child?

I helped with a baby shower last night and the decorations turned out so cute, I had to share.  There were 2 guests of honor…one a new mom-to-be and the other – how shall I say this? – has been down this road of ?? before. One is expecting a girl and one is expecting a boy. So, the theme? A garden party!

Lettuce is in the big pot and all the trimmings in the smaller pots. Fruit in the green bowl and pasta salad in the pink bowl. The unexpected serving pieces turned out to be a great ice breaker for those people who didn’t know each other well.

Lord knows child-rearing isn’t always a picnic. Don’t worry, I didn’t say that to the new mom. But, I thought it. And I think I heard the other mom say it out loud. I’m kidding. She didn’t. I don’t think. BUT…us parents…we look for the days full of flowers, right? The days that the ants don’t come crawling?  The days that the sun shines bright? The day you get an unexpected kiss on the cheek? The day the teacher says He had a great day? The day there is genuine chatter and laughter around the dinner table?

Nope, raising another human being to be a responsible adult and a willing contributor to society isn’t for the faint of heart. But, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

I don’t think.

You should know that while I thought this morning’s healthy outlook was soley because our 10 yr old is currently outside giving the dog a bath, it’s not. He and the dog are standing in my herb garden.
